Health Sector

Mashonaland West Province’s healthcare sector is a critical component of its social services framework, supporting a population of nearly 1.9 million people. The province operates 1 provincial hospital, 21 hospitals and 190 clinics, owned by government, private institutions, and mission organisations. Ongoing government efforts focus on expanding access through the renovation of existing facilities and the construction of new clinics to serve both rural and urban communities. Recent projects have been funded through devolution and private sector players through corporate social responsibility.

The healthcare sector also presents significant investment opportunities under the province’s Social Services Delivery initiatives. As highlighted in the Investment Opportunities presentation, investors can partner with government and local authorities to build and operate clinics, hospitals, and referral centres across all districts using PPP or private investment models. Demand for expanded services is driven by population growth, rural accessibility challenges, and the need for specialised facilities that complement the province’s economic expansion in mining, agriculture and tourism. Opportunities also exist in supplying medical equipment, establishing diagnostic centres, and developing modern healthcare infrastructure aligned with Vision 2030. With supportive governance, readily available land, and increasing provincial development programmes, Mashonaland West offers a fertile environment for strengthening healthcare delivery and improving community well-being.
