Welcome to Mashwest Province
Mashonaland West Province covers an area of approximately 57,441 square kilometres, making it the second largest province in Zimbabwe. The Province had a population of 1.89 million people in 2022 census. The provincial capital is Chinhoyi, with other major urban centres including Kadoma, Chegutu, Norton, Karoi, Kariba, Banket and Chirundu. These towns serve as key hubs for commerce, agriculture, mining, tourism and industrial development. Administratively, the Province is divided into seven districts, namely: Chegutu, Hurungwe, Kariba, Makonde, Mhondoro-Ngezi, Sanyati, and Zvimba.
Mashonaland West comprises both Urban and Rural Local Authorities, which operate as semi-autonomous entities. These councils are governed by elected councillors supported by professional secretariats responsible for service delivery and development planning. Geographically, the Province is strategically located in the northern part of Zimbabwe and shares an international border with Zambia to the North. Internally, it borders with Midlands Province to the South-West, Matabeleland North Province to the West, Mashonaland Central Province to the North-East, Harare Metropolitan Province and Mashonaland East Province to the South-East. Its strategic location, coupled with cross-border access through Chirundu and proximity to the capital city Harare, positions Mashonaland West as a key gateway for trade, tourism and regional integration.
